Holy Days
- Melasti or Melis - Great Purification ceremony when
thousands of temple adherents in Bali go to the beaches
of Bali, especially Kuta and Sanur, carrying their respective
temple effigies, started very early in the morning in
welcoming “Nyepi Holiday”, the Icaka new year.
- “Nyepi” Holiday (19 March 2007) - Icaka
New Year, the day of absolut silence throughout the island
when no activity is done, on traffic is seen anywhere
no fire is lit and no amusement is held along the day.
It’s the day of self-introspection for Hindu followers
when the entire island turns to be just like being deserted.
- Galungan (27 June 2007), held throughout Bali, as to
celebrate the victory of virtue (DHARMA) upon evil (ADHARMA)
when the entire island brightened with festivities while
“penjor” the tall-artistically-decorated-bamboo-poles
stuck at every house-entrance adorn the along sides of
the roads symbolizing prosperity.
- Kuningan (07 July 2007), the last day of GALUNGAN celebration,
as the ascendant day of ancestral-Holy spirits and Deities
back to Heaven, when special offerings made of yellow
rice and side dishes are offered to them while e very
compound and temple looks amazing with ornaments made
of young coconuts-leaves and flowers.
